Antonio Correa

Born in 1982 in Popayán, Colombia (South America,) Antonio Correa graduated in piano performance from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.

His interests in contemporary music for the piano can be traced to 2001 and some incipient performances of the music of the New York School (John Cage, Earle Brown, Morton Feldman and Christian Wolff). Soon after, he joins the student ensemble “Quinteto Mate”, a group devoted to the performance of new music, including music by members of the group. With this ensemble, Correa gives concerts at the main music halls in Colombia.

In 2004 he founds (along with guitarist and composer, Lautaro Mantilla) the ensemble “Los Conceptuales,” that premiered in Colombia a large number of Fluxus conceptual art pieces as well as some pieces by Earle Brown, Francisco Polonio and Yuji Takahashi.

Along with “Los Conceptuales” Correa founded the inter-media ensemble “NoseLaSostengoProductions” along with fellow composers and guitarists Lautaro Mantilla and Sergio Restrepo Mesa. This group gave several concerts including “Other Moods I-Piano Music” and “Piano Music II-Piano Music?” the “Fluxconcert” (an hour of Fluxus conceptual repertoire) at the Teatro Cristobal Colón. “NoseLaSostengo…” also created two performances called “The best Performance in the World” and “Always the best,” both of them including music and interaction with plastic figurines.

Since 2006 Antonio Correa is professor of music at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and member of the Als Eco ensemble, devoted to the divulgation of Simeon ten Holt’s music in Colombia.
